latest blogs from the road
If you have found your way here, this is the main blog page. A wonderful list of my inane ramblings and photography from our holidays around the world and road trips across America and Europe.
There may be even one or two useful posts hidden within, but I’m making no promises.

A sun-soaked day in Boston filled with history, humour and a touch of baseball. From bagels at Quincy Market to Fenway Park and pizza in the North End — Boston delivered another brilliant day on foot.

A day of history, walking and great food as we explored Boston’s Freedom Trail — from Paul Revere’s house to the USS Constitution, followed by authentic Italian dining in the city’s North End.
A day of contrasts — from peaceful forest drives through Vermont to the commercial chaos of Salem, before finally arriving in Boston. Great coffee, odd witches and a taste of the original Boston Cream Pie.
A gallery of roadside views between Toronto and Saratoga Springs — snapshots taken on the move by Deb, capturing the changing landscapes from Canada’s city skylines to America’s forested backroads.
Our final drive in Canada took us across bridges and islands before crossing into upstate New York. From wooden moose souvenirs to Amish buggies and forest roads, we ended the day in the laid-back charm of Saratoga Springs.
Leaving Toronto behind, we followed Lake Ontario’s backroads through Oshawa, Cobourg and Belleville, stopping to explore historic Parkwood Estate and Kingston Mills Lockstation before ending the day in Gananoque with great food, beer and plenty of character.
After a lazy start in Toronto, we explored St Lawrence Market, the Distillery District and the CN Tower before ending the day at a Mexico Day festival with live music and tacos. A relaxed, sunny and vibrant day in Canada’s biggest city.
An unforgettable night in Toronto as Morrissey took to the Budweiser Stage. Part of our East Coast USA and Canada adventure — and proof that even Deb can enjoy a Moz gig when he’s at his best.
A rolling collection of roadside snapshots — barns, bridges, houses and highways — all taken on the move from the passenger seat. These are the in-between moments that connect the dots of our East Coast USA and Canada adventure from New York to Toronto
Leaving Niagara-on-the-Lake after breakfast on the veranda, we followed the backroads along Lake Ontario towards Toronto. Misty lakeside drives, apple fritters from Tim Hortons, and a night watching Morrissey at the Budweiser Stage made for one unforgettable day in Canada.
Day 4 of our East Coast USA road trip was a driving day in every sense — the kind where the journey itself becomes the highlight. We left Ithaca at first light, coffee and pastries in hand, ready to swap college-town calm for the open road and our first full day behind the wheel in earnest.
