10 Years of Blogging the Road – and a New Adventure Ahead
It’s hard to believe it’s been ten years since I first started Blogging the Road. What began as a way to document our travels has turned into a decade-long collection of road trips and holidays around the world. I’ve still got plenty of catching up to do with past adventures, but first there’s the small matter of another U.S. road trip.
We’ll be looping out of New York City, driving through upstate New York, dipping into Ontario, Canada, then swinging back into New England with stops in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and finishing where we started in New York.

A s Billy Bragg once sang, “I don’t want to change the world, I’m not looking for New England”. Well, we are – and next week we’ll be boarding a British Airways flight from Heathrow to New York to begin our East Coast adventure.
Starting in Style: Manhattan
Our 15-night trip kicks off just steps away from Times Square, where we plan to ease ourselves in with plenty of food and shopping. Dinner at Gallagher’s Steakhouse is already booked, and I’ve got a hit list of shops mapped out, Bape, Adidas, Flight Club, Stadium Goods, and even Economy Candy. A couple of days of eating, exploring, and retail therapy should set us up nicely before we collect the hire car at JFK and hit the open road.

Waterfalls, Lakes & a Mancunian Legend
First stop: Ithaca for an overnight pause before heading to the thundering spectacle of Niagara Falls. From there we’ll slow things down in the charming town of Niagara-on-the-Lake, before crossing into Canada for three nights in Toronto. While there, we’ll be catching a very special gig – seeing a Mancunian legend perform live at Budweiser Stage – and exploring everything this buzzing city has to offer.
From Toronto, the route takes us further around Lake Ontario to the pretty town of Gananoque and the stunning 1000 Islands region.

History, Harbour Towns & Boston Cream Pie
Back in the U.S., we’ll roll into Saratoga Springs before heading east to the bright lights of Boston for a few nights. Alongside sampling the famous Boston Cream Pie, we’ll be exploring the wider area including a visit to Salem, a wander along the historic docks (where we’ll no doubt show our British disdain), and maybe even a tour of Fenway Park.
Coastal Charm & The Hamptons
Our final stretch takes us down the coast to Falmouth, giving us the chance to hop over to Martha’s Vineyard for a day trip, before driving on to Southampton to explore The Hamptons. After that, it’s back up the coast to JFK where business class flights will whisk us home to London – hopefully with full memory cards and plenty of stories to share.
And this is our itinerary
- New York – Hotel Edison Times Square
- Ithaca – Hotel Ithaca
- Niagara on the Lake – The Old bank House
- Toronto – The Omni King Edward Hotel
- Gananoque – The Bulloch House
- Saratoga Springs – Bluebird Spa City Motor Lodge
- Boston – Boston Omni Parker House Hotel
- Falmouth – Mariner Motel
- Southampton – Harpoon House
Fifteen nights. A mix of big cities, small towns, natural wonders, and coastal escapes. After ten years of Blogging the Road, I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate the journey so far and start the next chapter.
